Flight Safety Information July 20, 2010 - No. 142 In This Issue Delta Flight's Fire In Cockpit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Delta Flight's Fire In Cockpit After the pilot of a passenger plane reported smoke and a possible fire in the cockpit, the plane made an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Saturday night, according to officials. The Delta aircraft pilot put out the "very minor" fire himself after he finished the emergency landing, said Atlanta City Fire Department Captain James Dorsey. He added that the fire was related to electrical equipment. The Delta flight had 107 passengers and five crew members on-board, and no injuries were reported. Delta spokeswoman Chris Kelly said they were flying form Atlanta to Hartford, Connecticut, when the pilots smelled smoke in the cockpit and decided to turn back to Atlanta. Kelly also said an extinguisher was used by the crew members to put out the small fire, and the passengers exited the plane to wait for another aircraft to take them to Hartford. To find out the cause of this incident, Delta is conducting an investigation. http://newsplethora.org/ [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103575128209&s=6053&e=001MZJo6zQW4f-F-LMpjFxFcg2UqEDF25gVr0NaS_kTcbDzLLCHtOj4RHRvoCf2-a7xS5-FPZBNg7v90byqi78j0NdS7OKLGsLQs93SmTx9yw0qvF_kxzMO3w==] Back to Top ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Curt Lewis, P.E., CSP CURT LEWIS & ASSOCIATES, LLC
